AI Reduces Bitcoin Cryptographic Operations by Half
Artificial intelligence (AI) technology has halved the computational operations required for cryptographic decryption in the Bitcoin network. A research team of 35 members, including Jay E. Long, CTO of Theta Labs, published a paper titled "Open Automated Research for Optimizing Shor's Algorithm Elliptic Curve Point Addition" on the preprint website 'arXiv' on the 9th. The study found that the metric reflecting the space and computational load of quantum computers, known as 'Q*T', improved from 2.993 billion to approximately 1.496 billion, a reduction of about half. The researchers optimized the quantum circuit for 'point addition', which is repeatedly used when attacking the private key of the 'sep256k1' elliptic curve used in Bitcoin and Ethereum's digital signatures, using Shor's algorithm. The research utilized an 'open automated research' approach where human researchers collaborated with AI agents to enhance results. Shor's algorithm is an algorithm that quickly solves the core mathematical problems of public key cryptography using quantum computers. The researchers evaluated that this study significantly reduced the resource consumption required for Shor's algorithm and demonstrated the potential for collaboration between humans and AI.
