Automotive Industry Fell 6.7% in First Half, Monthly Improvement in June
The automotive industry recorded a 6.7% decline in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year, with vehicle production being the most affected. However, in June, there was a monthly improvement of 5.7% compared to May, driven by a 12.7% increase in auto parts exports. Fuel sales fell by 0.7%, auto parts exports decreased by 7.2%, and vehicle production plummeted by 18.3% year-on-year. Despite the monthly improvement, vehicle production fell by 1.9% compared to May, and fuel sales contracted by 5.8%. The situation is exacerbated by strong competition from Chinese vehicles in the region and the decision of some manufacturers to halt the production of light vehicles to focus on pickups. Sales to dealerships also showed year-on-year declines of 26.3% in June and 23.7% in the semester, while sales of Chinese cars increased by 1533.2% in the first six months. In light of this scenario, brands are implementing aggressive financing strategies and bonuses.
