The head of the licensing department of the Central Bank announced that cryptocurrency exchanges are not supervised by this bank and no licenses are issued for them. These statements come at a time when demand for cryptocurrency activities in Iran is increasing, and no specific entity has taken responsibility for overseeing this market. The head of the licensing department of the Central Bank also emphasized that obtaining a license for exchanges is only possible through the national licensing portal, and no licenses are issued outside of this portal. Meysam Zahorian, a member of the Economic Commission of the Parliament, warned about the regulatory gaps in this area and stated that this sector has become a platform for money laundering. He also pointed to the empowerment of actors in this field, adding that these individuals are preventing regulation in this sector by creating trade unions. According to Zahorian, the lack of effective oversight by the government and the Central Bank has led to the cryptocurrency sector becoming a lawless and black part of the economy.
