Cosmos Lab Secures 22 Billion Won Investment and Prepares for Production of Non-Lithium Batteries
Cosmos Lab has completed a Series A investment agreement worth 22 billion won and is set to begin the mass production of aqueous zinc-halogens batteries. The final payment is expected to be completed by the end of this month. This investment round saw participation from domestic and international institutional investors as well as strategic investors, with the funds focused on enhancing battery technology and establishing a foundation for expanding into AI data centers and next-generation energy storage systems (ESS) markets. Cosmos Lab is developing non-lithium battery cells using water-based non-flammable electrolytes and zinc-halogens materials. This battery features an integrated cell structure that does not require external electrolyte tanks and circulation pumps. The company is integrating the development of anodes, cathodes, separators, electrolytes, and charge/discharge operation technologies and manufacturing processes, with plans to transition the research and development stage batteries into commercial products. SoftBank has begun joint development of high-safety battery cells with Cosmos Lab, aiming for battery cell and ESS manufacturing by the fiscal year 2027. Through this investment, Cosmos Lab aims to strengthen its research and development capabilities and establish a mass production foundation for global clients.
