Global Markets Affected by Interest Rates and Geopolitical Tensions
Global financial markets have been influenced in the past 24 hours by concerns over U.S. interest rates and geopolitical tensions. The creation of 162,000 new jobs in August raised the likelihood of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike at the September meeting to 60%. The dollar index rose by 0.2% to 99.12, while the yields on two-year and ten-year U.S. Treasury bonds increased to 4.38% and 4.78%, respectively. This situation has negatively impacted non-yielding assets and riskier markets. Brent crude oil rose by 0.8% to $96.28 per barrel due to the war with Iran and shipping risks in the Strait of Hormuz. Bitcoin fell by 1.75% to $79,575, losing the psychological support level of $80,000. Gold also decreased by 1.4% to $4,430 per ounce. In Iran, the price of 18-carat gold per gram increased to 23,364,000 tomans, while Tether fell by 0.54% to 220,250 tomans. The release of U.S. inflation statistics and the status of energy shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz are the main variables facing traders.
