Google to Shift Pixel Production Outside China Starting in 2027
Google has informed its suppliers of plans to move the production of Pixel smartphones, smartwatches, and wireless earbuds outside of China starting in 2027. This move aims to expand production bases in Vietnam and India. In recent years, Google has been working to reduce its dependence on China by increasing production capacity in Vietnam and India. The key focus of this shift is the high-end Pixel smartphones, as the company believes that the accumulated development and production experience in Vietnam will allow for a smoother transition of the entire Pixel production schedule. Google plans to increase Pixel phone shipments this year by 8-10% from last year's 12 million units. A supply chain source explained that Google has no burden in leaving China since it does not sell Pixel phones in the Chinese market. Google is expected to be cited as a global brand that separates smartphone production from China, following Samsung Electronics. Last week, Google unveiled the Pixel 11 series and Pixel Watch 5, with the Pixel remaining a benchmark product showcasing Google's AI device strategy. The actual scope and timeline of Google's relocation will be confirmed in subsequent actions.
