New Codex Limits Third-Party APIs, Disappearing Live Images and Online Tools

The new version of Codex will recognize model service providers, and after integrating third-party APIs, the client may no longer load live images and online search tools. The model itself remains unchanged, but the capabilities of the client have been reduced. Tests show that writing the Provider name as OpenAI can restore some functionalities, but it will enable remote conversation compression, which may lead to timeouts in long conversations. Another solution is to retain a custom Provider and add the x-openai-actor-authorization request header. The Codex open-source testing code indicates that web search and live image tools can be reopened. Codex CLI and app-server have been open-sourced, but the desktop client itself has not been open-sourced. This situation remains a personal reverse conclusion, and OpenAI has not publicly responded.
