OKX, MetaMask, Matter Labs launch Internet Court for AI agents

A coalition of crypto and Web3 firms, including OKX, MetaMask, Matter Labs, and Genlayer, has established the "Internet Court" to resolve disputes between AI agents. As AI agents conduct transactions autonomously, they face potential contractual disagreements similar to human transactions. Traditional courts are ill-equipped to handle these cases, prompting the creation of a protocol supported by 27 firms, led by the Genlayer Foundation, to facilitate AI-based payments, escrow, and dispute resolution. David Riudor, CEO of GenLayer Foundation, emphasized the need for rapid adjudication in agentic commerce, stating, "Internet Court is the shared place agents can turn to when a deal goes wrong. Machine-speed money needs machine-speed adjudication." The protocol addresses interoperability issues among various AI commerce systems, which remain fragmented despite rapid advancements. Emerging protocols like Coinbase's x402 for payments and ERC-8004 for agent identity are being developed, but they often leave gaps for agents to navigate. Albert Castellana, co-founder of GenLayer Labs, noted that "Internet Court makes them work together," aiming to unify the fragmented landscape into a cohesive system for financial commitments. GenLayer is integrating MetaMask's Smart Accounts Kit, including ERC-7710 delegations and x402 Facilitator, into the Internet Court.
