OpenAI Charges Some Major Clients Based on Task Completion Results
OpenAI has recently started offering a new payment method to some major clients, charging based on the results of completed tasks. Companies can pay according to the actual customer service tasks completed by the AI, rather than being billed by token usage, call volume, or seat count. Currently implemented scenarios include customer service, but OpenAI has not disclosed specific clients, pricing, or criteria for task completion, and has declined to comment on this. This results-based charging model is not available to all businesses; the public pricing on the official website for Enterprise remains primarily based on quotas and tokens, indicating that this is a separate contract for select major clients. OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar suggested in January that there may be a trend towards results-based charging in future AI business models, and emphasized in July the need to focus on the actual costs of tasks completed by AI. This concept has now begun to be applied in real contracts.
