Tom Lee: South Korea's Tokenization Regulation is Not a Global Standard
Tom Lee, chairman of BitMine's board, evaluated South Korea's tokenization regulatory direction as an approach that considers government sovereignty, taxation, and protection of domestic companies, predicting that countries around the world will not follow the same model. At the 'Ethereum Korea One: Genesis' institutional session held in Yeouido, Seoul on the 28th, Lee stated that he can understand South Korea's approach when asked about the differences in tokenization regulatory approaches between South Korea and the United States. He emphasized that South Korea already has high participation and infrastructure in the virtual asset market, so there is no urgent need to drastically change the market structure centered on external operators. Lee added that South Korea's policy direction will not restrict the global tokenization flow. He also stressed that domestic financial institutions need to adapt their existing business models to the spread of tokenization and blockchain, mentioning the potential for Ethereum to become a key infrastructure in the global tokenization market. He explained that asset tokenization could create new financial products and value structures. He also mentioned the potential for the combination of AI and blockchain, stating that there is a high likelihood that digital asset networks will be utilized when AI systems engage in economic activities. Finally, he noted that while Bitcoin functions well as a store of value, platforms like Ethereum will play a more important role as the settlement infrastructure of future finance.
