Ukraine Needs $27 Billion for Defense
Ukraine is calling on its partners to allocate $27 billion for the production of drones and missiles to strengthen air defense by the beginning of winter. Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara noted that against the backdrop of Russian aerial terror and Russia's mobilization plans, the country needs more critically important weaponry. Ukraine is requesting funds from national budgets for the procurement of drones, accelerating the provision of EU loans, and discussing the use of frozen Russian assets. Khmara also urged the transfer of Patriot missiles to counter ballistic missiles and air-to-air interceptors to combat cruise missiles. Contributions from partners to the PURL and JUMPSTART mechanisms remain important. The minister emphasized that every euro invested in the Ukrainian defense industry strengthens Europe's security. The Ministry of Defense, together with military leadership, is expanding projects based on asymmetric solutions and preparing a war plan for international partners. Ukraine has also approached the EU with a request for funding interceptors in Patriot systems, asking for more than €2 billion from the €90 billion EU loan.
