U.S. Defense Secretary Holds Bitcoin Worth at Least $3.1 Million
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reported his Bitcoin (BTC) holdings in his 2025 financial disclosure. The amount of Bitcoin he holds is estimated to be between $16,000 and $65,000, and his total financial assets, including cash, retirement accounts, and Bitcoin, amount to at least $3.1 million. According to the disclosure, Secretary Hegseth holds Bitcoin in a Coinbase wallet under his name and had owned Bitcoin prior to taking office. In the candidate financial disclosure submitted in December 2024, the Bitcoin in the Coinbase wallet was listed as being worth between $15,001 and $50,000. Secretary Hegseth has expressed a positive view on Bitcoin, stating that related activities are being conducted confidentially. The disclosure includes three cash accounts exceeding $1 million and five retirement accounts, with a total value of the retirement accounts ranging from $2.05 million to $4.35 million. Additionally, Secretary Hegseth's family purchased between $1.41 million and $3.05 million worth of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on 16 occasions last year and sold shares of more than 20 defense companies. The disclosure also reported two mortgage loans ranging from $1 million to $5 million in debt.
