Cardano Integrates x402 for AI Agent Payments

Cardano has joined the x402 software kit, allowing artificial intelligence (AI) agents to pay directly for digital services using ADA and other native tokens. This integration facilitates programs to make payments automatically when requesting services, eliminating the need for manual intervention by users. For example, an AI agent can pay for data needed for a report without the user having to enter payment information. The Cardano Foundation developed this integration based on a specification accepted in June, being the first version compatible with TypeScript and with plans for support for Python. Although a transaction has been recorded on the Cardano pre-production network as a test, the integration has not yet been implemented on the main network. x402, created by Coinbase in 2025, is backed by members such as Visa, Mastercard, and Google. The relevance of this integration for ADA will depend on adoption by developers and the implementation of real transactions.
