Celsius co-founders Shlomi Daniel Leon and Hanoch Goldstein have been ordered to pay over $6 million to settle the FTC's allegations of misleading users about the safety of their funds prior to Celsius's collapse. Goldstein was fined $2.014 million, while Leon was fined $4.1 million. The FTC accused Celsius of falsely claiming to customers that it held sufficient reserves, had $750 million in insurance coverage for deposits, and had not issued unsecured loans. Former CEO Alex Mashinsky settled FTC charges in April for $10 million and was sentenced to 12 years in prison in May 2025 for commodity and securities fraud. Celsius owed users $4.7 billion when it filed for bankruptcy in July 2022.
