Chainalysis: Brazil Tops 2026 Global Crypto Adoption Index, with the US and Nigeria in Second and Third Place
Chainalysis has released the 2026 Global Crypto Adoption Index, with Brazil ranking first and a crypto economy size of $252.5 billion, achieving top four positions in all four metrics. The top ten countries are Brazil, the United States, Nigeria, Japan, South Korea, India, Ukraine, Thailand, South Africa, and Canada. The US leads globally in total volume and balance, but ranks only 20th in peer-to-peer activity and 11th in cross-border flows; Nigeria ranks first globally in both domestic peer-to-peer activity and cross-border flows. The report indicates that as of June 30, 2026, the total market capitalization of cryptocurrencies has decreased by approximately 50%, shrinking by $2.1 trillion, while the global crypto economy size has only dropped from $9.5 trillion to $9.4 trillion, a decline of 1.6%. The value flowing into exchanges, DeFi, and other crypto services has decreased by 4.3% to $8.9 trillion, while the value of domestic peer-to-peer transfers between wallets has increased by 302.9% to $22.87 billion, with 96% being stablecoins. The value of cross-border stablecoin transfers has grown by 77.5% to $22.03 billion, with an average transaction amount of about $3,000. Transfers below $100 have increased by 78.4%, while transfers between $100 and $1,000 have grown by 58.6%. The global on-chain holdings have decreased from a peak of $860 billion in September 2025 to $440 billion, with stablecoin balances maintained between $98 billion and $109 billion, accounting for 22.5% of the total on-chain value.
