Haun Ventures Partner Says AI and Stablecoins Will Create New Insurance Giants
Haun Ventures partner Chris Ahn stated that the global insurance industry is vast, with premiums accounting for about 7% of the world's GDP, reaching $7.8 trillion annually, which exceeds Germany's GDP. Despite insurance covering nearly all households and businesses, no new giants have emerged in mature economies for decades, as larger balance sheets are better able to absorb losses. Ahn pointed out that three major transformations present opportunities for the industry: AI agents can reduce underwriting and claims processing time from days to hours, lowering expense ratios and increasing quote speeds; stablecoins can fill the gap in life insurance and annuities in emerging markets, with a supply of about $300 billion, of which approximately two-thirds is held by individuals in emerging markets.
