Jeff Garzik Claims 99% of Digital Assets Should Ultimately Go to Zero
Jeff Garzik, one of the original developers of Bitcoin Core, stated that 99% of digital assets should ultimately go to zero. He made this assessment on the Bitcoin Treasuries podcast, pointing out that the near-zero creation costs enable permissionless innovation, leading to networks like Solana generating a large number of new tokens daily. Garzik believes that the nearly infinite supply, under the logic of supply and demand, naturally tends to drive the value of most tokens towards loss. He emphasized that this zero-cost competitive environment is positive for the industry, as high-quality projects that can survive rigorous selection will ultimately benefit the sector. Garzik's viewpoint critiques the oversaturation of digital assets and the widespread issuance of tokens on price, arguing that the ease of launching new assets expands competition among projects and exerts downward pressure on the value of most projects over time. This argument reflects an understanding of the supply dynamics in the crypto market and how projects are filtered over time, showcasing a unique perspective as one of the early developers of Bitcoin Core.
