Number of EU MiCA Registered Banks Doubles to Approximately 80, Accounting for Nearly 23%
As of September 16, the number of banks on the EU MiCA crypto asset service provider (CASP) registration list has doubled from about 40 on June 26 to approximately 80, with the proportion of registered banks rising from about 17% to nearly 23%. During the same period, the total number of registered CASPs increased from 243 to 349. German banks are the main drivers of this expansion, with new entrants including Deutsche Bank and numerous regional cooperative banks such as Volksbank and Raiffeisenbank. Unlike non-bank entities that must apply for CASP authorization, banks can enter the crypto asset service sector more quickly through the notification procedure outlined in Article 60 of MiCA.
