Number of public companies holding Bitcoin nearly quintupled to 196
The number of public companies that own Bitcoin has increased from 41 to 196 since the beginning of 2024, representing an increase of nearly 400 percent. The largest growth occurred in 2025, when 120 new companies added Bitcoin to their balance sheets. By early 2026, River counted 194 public companies with Bitcoin, and BitcoinTreasuries now reports 196. The list includes not only crypto companies and miners but also firms from technology, finance, trade, healthcare, and the automotive industry. Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, holds the largest share of the total 1.28 million Bitcoins owned by these companies, with 848,000 Bitcoins, which represents nearly 100 billion euros. Strategy continues to actively acquire more this year, recently purchasing 1,665 Bitcoins for over 125 million euros.
