Solana Reduces Slot Time to 250 Milliseconds, Increases Block Generation Speed by 17%
Solana has reduced its target slot time from 300 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds, resulting in an almost 17% increase in block generation speed. The amount of computation and data that each slot can handle has correspondingly decreased, while the overall transaction processing capacity remains unchanged. This adjustment shortens the epoch duration to approximately 30 hours and reduces the available time for offline signing and delayed approvals. A proposal to further reduce the slot time to 200 milliseconds has yet to determine a mainnet launch date.
