Solana Rent Reduced to 5080 Lamports, Effective September 11
The second step of the Solana proposal SIMD-0437 to reduce rent will take effect on the mainnet at 21:15 UTC on September 11, corresponding to epoch 1033. The required lamports per byte will decrease from 6333 to 5080, a cumulative drop of approximately 27%. The deposit required for on-chain storage, such as creating token accounts, will also be further reduced. There is currently no fixed timeline for subsequent steps; the third step will commence once the on-chain state growth confirms safety. If any anomalies occur, SIMD-0438 can serve as a fallback mechanism to revert the rent parameters. Three steps remain in the five-step plan.
