Study Shows 32% to 56% of Cryptocurrency Holders in the U.S. Report Transactions

Research estimates that only 32% to 56% of cryptocurrency holders in the United States have reported their transactions to the federal government. The IRS will require brokers to send investors a 1099-DA form detailing their total gains from digital assets starting from the 2025 tax year. Accountants note that determining taxes on digital asset transactions has historically been complex, often more challenging than calculating taxes on traditional financial assets like stocks and bonds.
