The Clearing House Selects Quant for US Tokenized Deposit Network
The Clearing House has chosen Quant to provide interoperability and transaction management for its On-Chain Money Initiative. This network will enable financial institutions to clear and settle tokenized deposits while connecting to existing RTP and CHIPS payment systems. Participating institutions are expected to gain access in the first half of 2027. The initiative aims to integrate tokenized deposits into the U.S. financial system, which currently processes over 2 trillion dollars daily across various payment methods. Quant will facilitate the movement of tokenized deposits between institutions and link the network to traditional fiat rails. Unlike public stablecoins, tokenized deposits remain a liability of the issuing bank, with blockchain technology enhancing the recording and transfer of these claims. The Clearing House's initiative, first announced in June, is transitioning from a broad banking project to a specific technology architecture. The system could support corporate treasury functions, liquidity management, cross-border payments, and digital asset settlements, with payments potentially programmed for automatic execution upon meeting agreed conditions. This project represents infrastructure in development rather than a live consumer payment network, but its scale and connection to existing banking systems could significantly impact how banks utilize programmable on-chain money.
