Brazil Surpasses the U.S. in Cryptocurrency Adoption, Moves $252.5 Billion
Brazil ranks first in the Chainalysis cryptocurrency adoption index, published on September 23, 2026, surpassing the U.S., which comes in second among 117 evaluated countries. The report covers the period from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, during which market capitalization decreased to $2.1 trillion, marking the worst bear market since 2022. Brazil stands out for its widespread use of cryptocurrencies in daily transactions, although it does not lead in any of the four individual categories analyzed. It ranked second in cross-border flows, third in services and domestic peer activity, and fourth in on-chain balances. The U.S. led in balances and flows to services but fell to 11th place in cross-border remittances and 20th in internal P2P transfers. In the last year, the price of Bitcoin (BTC) experienced a drop of $67,000. Domestic P2P transfers in Brazil increased by 302.9% to $228.7 billion, with stablecoins accounting for 96% of these transfers. The cryptocurrency economy in Brazil moved $252.5 billion, representing 43.7% of Latin American activity, which grew by 9.8% to $593.8 billion. Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela, and Colombia follow Brazil, concentrating over 80% of the region's cryptocurrency economy.
