Base Network Achieves 7.5 Million Daily Transactions
Base network activity reached approximately 7.5 million transactions in a single day, based on validated data from September 22. This figure encompasses all recorded transactions, including low-value and automated activities, serving as a usage metric rather than an indicator of economic value. The increase in daily transactions highlights the growth of Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2 ecosystem. Layer 2 networks like Base allow for economical recording of interactions that would be too costly on the Ethereum mainnet, enabling social actions, wallet automation, small trades, and game events. This results in a transaction record that reflects genuine adoption while also including a significant amount of automated or micro-transaction activity. Base's expansion is driven by consumer-facing applications, smart wallets, and social or commerce products, generating more transactions compared to chains focused solely on high-value financial settlements. The 7.5 million transaction figure indicates that Base is managing activity at a scale where throughput and infrastructure efficiency are crucial. However, it does not reveal the number of unique users or the economic value involved. The challenge remains to sustain user retention and economic value per user, as high transaction counts do not guarantee lasting engagement. Base benefits from a direct connection to one of the largest consumer crypto platforms, which may facilitate user transition from exchange accounts to onchain applications.
