China's Gold Imports Exceed 1,000 Tons by August, Setting Record Levels
China's gold imports reached a record high in 2023, with purchases exceeding 1,000 tons by August, surpassing the total for the entire year of 2025. The increase was driven by falling international gold prices and a strengthening yuan. Customs data shows that this information can be traced back to 2017. Wu Zijie, an analyst at Jinrui Futures, pointed out that strong investment demand has kept domestic gold prices at a slight premium over international benchmarks, attracting more imports.
