Ford Motor Co. and the Unifor union have ratified a new collective agreement that includes a 9% wage increase for hourly workers and one-time payments of CAD 10,000 for permanent employees and CAD 2,000 for temporary workers. As part of the agreement, Ford has committed to investing CAD 700 million ($499 million) in the Essex Engine Plant in Windsor, which will increase the production of 5.0-liter engines. These parts will be sent to Ford's assembly plants in the United States. The investment will complement the previously planned CAD 550 million for the Oakville plant. Ford CEO Jim Farley emphasized the importance of investing in people and the future of Canada, as well as defending the USMCA agreement. The new Gordie Howe International Bridge, set to open this month, will improve the logistics of the Essex plant, speeding up trade between Canada and the United States.
