A former Polish police officer, Artur K., has been charged by prosecutors in connection with the collapsed Zondacrypto exchange. Investigators are searching a fuel depot where Zondacrypto founder Sylwester Suszek was last seen before his disappearance in March 2022. Artur K. faces two charges: membership in an organized criminal group and causing significant property damage to BitBay, BB Trade Estonia, and another entity, as well as aiding in the misappropriation of funds, computer fraud, and money laundering. A search of his home revealed documentation related to the exchange's operations. Prosecutors will decide on pre-trial detention after questioning him. Meanwhile, police are examining the fuel depot with forensic experts, treating Suszek's case as unlawful deprivation of liberty. Zondacrypto, originally founded as BitBay in 2014, moved its registration to Estonia in 2020 and claimed 1.3 million clients before freezing withdrawals in April. At least five others have been charged in the case since August, including Radosław P., the former head of the Polish Olympic Committee, all of whom deny the allegations.
