Kakao Pay, Kakao Bank Collaborate with Fireblocks on Stablecoin Infrastructure
Kakao Pay and Kakao Bank are teaming up with global virtual asset infrastructure company Fireblocks to establish a domestic stablecoin infrastructure. On the 22nd, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Fireblocks to build a domestic digital asset ecosystem. Through this agreement, the three companies plan to jointly explore the infrastructure needs and business opportunities in the domestic digital asset market. In particular, they will seek digital asset distribution solutions that align with the domestic regulatory environment and security systems, focusing on stablecoins, and will also look for proof of concept (PoC) opportunities to verify the applicability of services. Fireblocks is a company that provides infrastructure for financial institutions and businesses to store, transfer, and build services such as payments, settlements, and tokenization of digital assets. Kakao Group has been operating a joint task force (TF) on stablecoins and has been reviewing plans for building a Korean digital asset ecosystem. Kakao Bank CEO Yoon Ho-young stated that they will research safe and convenient digital asset services based on the technologies and capabilities of both companies. Kakao Pay CEO Shin Won-geun emphasized the importance of establishing a distribution foundation for digital assets, stating that the partnership with Fireblocks will serve as a cornerstone for that foundation.
