Polymarket Lobbying to Include Prediction Markets Under MiFID Regulation
Polymarket is lobbying in the UK, Brussels, and several EU countries to have prediction market contracts classified as financial derivatives and included under the MiFID and other financial services regulatory frameworks, rather than being subject to various national gambling laws. The company has engaged with the European Securities and Markets Authority, the European Commission, and the UK's Financial Conduct Authority, seeking to obtain relevant licenses in Europe. Polymarket is currently raising funds at a valuation of over $20 billion. Regulatory authorities in the UK, France, Germany, and Italy have previously indicated that related prediction market activities may require local gambling licenses.
