Block Integrates Bitcoin Lightning Network into x402 Payment Standard
Payment company Block announced on September 24 that it will integrate the Bitcoin Lightning Network into the x402 payment standard. The x402 protocol allows for verification and unlocking of data through Lightning Network invoices and payment pre-images after the server returns an HTTP 402 payment request. This integration is aimed at instant, low-cost micropayment scenarios. Block has not disclosed a timeline for the standard's integration with Cash App, Square, or Bitkey, and the related Python implementation still needs to be tested through real nodes.
