Tether Discusses USDT Return to Bitcoin with Morgan Stanley
Utexo CEO Viktor Ihnatiuk met with Morgan Stanley in Washington to discuss USDT on Bitcoin, focusing on adoption in Europe and globally. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino stated that USDT is 'coming home' to Bitcoin, where it was first launched in 2014. Tether initially issued USDT through the Omni Layer on Bitcoin before most of its supply transitioned to Ethereum and Tron, with support for Omni ending in 2023. Utexo provides infrastructure for USDT on Bitcoin, enabling transactions over the Lightning Network using the RGB protocol, which issues assets on Bitcoin while keeping transaction data off-chain. Tether led Utexo's $7.5 million seed round, which included Big Brain Holdings and Franklin Templeton. In August, Utexo integrated its RGB Lightning module into Tether's Wallet Development Kit. Morgan Stanley has increased its involvement in crypto, launching a spot Bitcoin ETF in April and E*Trade crypto trading in May. However, USDT on Bitcoin is not yet available to most users, with UniSat, a wallet for Bitcoin Ordinals, named as the next launch partner. Tether's RGB plans were first announced in August 2025, aimed at enhancing privacy and scalability. The RGB protocol has reached Bitcoin mainnet, but Tether faces challenges in Europe due to regulatory constraints. Morgan Stanley has not confirmed a formal partnership with Utexo, making the UniSat rollout a key test for USDT's demand on Bitcoin.
