Poverty Level in Ukraine Doubled in Four Years
In 2025, 41.6% of Ukrainians lived below the poverty line, which is twice as much compared to 2021, according to a World Bank study "Listening to Ukraine." By the end of 2025, 35.4% of Ukrainian families had a limited diet. Only 53% of families were able to fully purchase necessary medications, with high costs being the main reason for their absence. The employment situation also remains challenging: only 17% of people with serious functional limitations are employed, and among veterans, one in four has lost their job, which is more than twice the rate among those without such status. Daniil Getmantsev, head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy, noted bill No. 14191, which proposes changes to support families with disabled children and individuals with disabilities from childhood, including increased benefits and social services. However, he emphasized that a separate bill will not solve the poverty problem and highlighted important areas such as the accessibility of medications, employment for veterans, and improving living standards. The State Statistics Service is conducting a survey on the income and living conditions (EU-SILC) of Ukrainians, which will last until June of this year.
