American Bitcoin Reports $57 Million Loss in Q2 and Appoints Paul Sacks as Interim CFO
American Bitcoin (ABTC) recorded a net loss of $57 million in the second quarter, leading to a change in its financial leadership. Although Bitcoin (BTC) production and holdings increased, the company transitioned from profit to loss, making profit and capital management a key challenge for the new financial officer. According to filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and company announcements, Paul Sacks, head of derivatives at American Bitcoin, will serve as interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) starting from the 4th, following the resignation of President Matthew Prusak. The company stated that Prusak's resignation was not due to disagreements related to operations, accounting, financial reporting, or policies. American Bitcoin reported revenues of $67 million in the second quarter, with a net loss turning from a profit of $3.4 million in the same period last year. Revenue fell short of market expectations of $73.8 million. Operational metrics improved, with Bitcoin mining output reaching 932 BTC in the second quarter, an increase of about 14% from the previous quarter. As of the end of June, holdings totaled 8,002 BTC, valued at approximately $500 million based on that price. American Bitcoin, along with Hut 8, is a Bitcoin mining and holding company, and is expected to be listed on NASDAQ by September 2025.
