StarkWare cuts BTC quantum-resistant transaction cost by 79% to 66 dollars
StarkWare announced that the estimated computing cost for Bitcoin quantum-safe transactions (QSB) has decreased by 79% to approximately 66 dollars from around 320 dollars. QSB is a technology designed to prepare for quantum computer attacks without altering the Bitcoin network's consensus rules. In August, the first QSB mainnet transaction required about 3,100 GPU-hours and cost approximately 320 dollars in computing expenses. Following a week of optimization challenges that led to 62 improvements, the estimated cost was reduced to around 66 dollars. StarkWare clarified that this figure is based on benchmark testing and does not represent actual transaction costs, nor does it include Bitcoin network fees. Unlike standard BTC transfers, QSB necessitates separate large-scale GPU computing to create a quantum-resistant transaction. StarkWare also indicated that enhanced quantum resistance through a soft fork may be necessary in the long run.
