"We should never touch the protocol again. The experimentation phase was 10 years ago," says Cobra about Bitcoin
Cobra, the owner of Bitcoin.org, believes that Bitcoin should not undergo any new changes. In conversations with other community members on X, formerly Twitter, the veteran argues that the experimentation phase has already passed.
Among the justifications presented for this ossification are the low adoption of new features, technical and social risks, developer burnout, and the fact that the technology is already mature.
Another point raised is that Bitcoin is an asset with a market value of $1.6 trillion, and today the security of that value is the most important issue.
Everything worth discussing has already been discussed, says Cobra
Participating in discussions on social media, Cobra recently expressed concern about the risks posed by the evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, stating that Bitcoin should not take risks.
"I would have agreed with you a few months ago, but now my opinion is that we should never touch the protocol again. No changes. Not with what is happening with AI. It’s too dangerous. Looking back, it was right not to complicate the protocol further. We were lucky," Cobra replied to a comment suggesting that Bitcoin should seek greater scalability, fungibility, smart contracts, and other functions.
"NO! The era of 'experimentation' was 10 years ago. Now there is too much money in Bitcoin. There is not only technical risk but also social risk. We cannot keep discussing and creating forks because of this or that change. It is better to just leave everything as it is, except for critical bug fixes."
In other tweets, the owner of Bitcoin.org reminds that Bitcoin is almost 20 years old and "everything that was conceivable and worth discussing has already been discussed on BitcoinTalk years ago," again drawing attention to the risks of suffering an attack by an AI.
Continuing, Cobra lists a series of reasons beyond the risk of an AI attack. Among them:
- Low adoption of new functionalities, which would not be enough to justify the risk;
- Introduction of new and unintentional behaviors, such as the Ordinals after the implementation of Taproot;
- Division of the community;
- Burnout of developers who need to engage in politics.
"To say that 'experimentation will never stop' is very concerning for anyone storing wealth in Bitcoin. Bitcoin was the first and was conceived perfectly. We cannot afford to ruin it, because we will not have another chance or anything like it again. It is not some project that you can keep tinkering with and experimenting on."

Owner of Bitcoin.org warns that we should not trust AIs to develop Bitcoin's code
Continuing the conversation, another user argues that AIs have been devastating because the codes were insecure. In other words, they argue that these tools could be used for good.
Cobra, on the other hand, expressed concern about this idea.
"The AI we have now is not dangerous, but in the near future, it may not be possible to trust it. It can introduce subtle bugs on purpose. The recent bug in Liquid happened as a result of an incorrect fix for a bug discovered by an AI."

Finally, in another message, the veteran also points out that "digital money" was a great starting point for Bitcoin, but that the project has already moved beyond that phase.
