Ethereum will no longer be just a blockchain but will combine blockchain with modern cryptography, featuring more powerful characteristics. Related plans include FOCIL, EIP-8288, streamlined consensus, state management, formal verification, improvements to the privacy features of the memory pool, and long-term obfuscation techniques.
